Kim Kardashian is being considered for the role of the villain in Amazon MGM’s upcoming live-action ”Bratz” film, as the studio looks to turn the iconic toy line into its next major franchise.
Amazon MGM secured rights to the movie after a competitive bidding war, hoping to mirror the success of ”Barbie”, which became 2023’s top-grossing film with $1.44 billion worldwide. While details about the plot and full cast remain under wraps, the project is already drawing attention due to Kardashian’s potential involvement.
The screenplay is being written by Charlie Polinger and Lucy McKendrick. Producing the film are Erik Feig and Julia Hammer of Picturestart, along with Kardashian herself, and Jason and Jasmin Larian for MGA Entertainment. MGA CEO Isaac Larian will serve as executive producer.
Since debuting in 2001, Bratz has sold over 200 million dolls and maintains a strong online following. Amazon MGM claims it has the highest social media engagement among toy brands. Still, it remains uncertain whether that will translate into box office success.
Bratz previously appeared on the big screen in a 2007 live-action film from Lionsgate, which was a commercial disappointment. The brand has also inspired TV series and video games over the years.
Kardashian, known for ”Keeping Up With the Kardashians” and her clothing brand Skims, has been increasingly active in scripted roles. She recently starred in ”American Horror Story” and voiced characters in both ”PAW Patrol” films. Her upcoming projects include the Netflix comedy ”The Fifth Wheel”, directed by Eva Longoria, and a role in Ryan Murphy’s legal drama ”All Is Fair”.
The Bratz film is part of a wider trend in Hollywood, with several toy-based adaptations currently in development, including ”Hot Wheels”, ”Polly Pocket”, ”Barney”, and ”Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots”.
