CA departs for Malaysia

Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus departed for Malaysia on Monday (August 11) for a three-day official visit. He left Dhaka at 2:00 PM on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight.

During the visit, five memorandums of understanding (MoUs) and three exchanges of notes are expected to be signed between the two countries, with a focus on the migration and investment sectors.

Dr. Yunus is also expected to meet Malaysia’s former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad during his visit.

His delegation includes the advisers on foreign affairs, expatriates’ welfare, power, energy and mineral resources, as well as the national security adviser and the chief adviser’s special envoy for international affairs.

Speaking about the visit on Sunday, Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said the trip is expected to deepen bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Malaysia. He added that Malaysia plays a crucial role in recruiting Bangladeshi migrant workers.

Key discussion topics will include cooperation on migration, investment, and deep-sea fishing.

Upon arrival in Malaysia, the chief adviser will be received with a guard of honour. On Tuesday, he will hold a one-on-one meeting with the Malaysian Prime Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office in Putrajaya. This will be followed by a bilateral meeting between delegations and the signing of the MoUs.

The five expected MoUs will focus on cooperation in defense and energy, the formation of a business council, collaboration between the Bangladesh-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI) and Malaysian semiconductor firm MIMOS, and a partnership between the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS) and Malaysia’s Institute of Strategic and International Studies (ISIS). In addition, three exchanges of notes are expected to be signed covering cooperation in the halal ecosystem, higher education, and diplomatic training.
