Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has demanded the transfer of Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and Superintendents of Police (SPs) through lottery in the upcoming national elections.
Jamaat’s Secretary General Golam Porwar said, ”You have noticed that suddenly a DC left less than 20 days. Again, many have been reshuffled within a week. After the schedule is announced, all power goes to the EC.’s hand. The EC reshuffles the administration, etc. The most neutral and trustworthy way is to transfer through lottery – whoever has the right will go where he is destined. There is no question about it.”
He said these during a dialogue withthe Election Commission on Wednesday.Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin was present there.
Jamaat also requested the EC to deploy at least five Army personnel at every polling centres.
“For some logical reason, we said the referendum should be held first. Because if there are two votes on the same day, the people will not understand. The people have to understand what a referendum is.”
BNP, NCP, Ganosamhati Andolan, Nationalist Democratic Movement-NDM, Bangladesh Labour Party, Bangladesh Minority Janata Party-BMJP and Insaniat Biplab Bangladesh were also present at the discussion.
