A Dhaka court has set November 27 for delivering the judgement in a corruption case against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 11 others over alleged irregularities in the allocation of government plots.
On Sunday (23 November), Judge Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun of Dhaka Special Judge Court-5 scheduled the verdict after completing arguments for one accused. The remaining 11 are absconding and did not present arguments in their defence.
According to court officials, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case on January 14, accusing Hasina and several former government officials of abusing power to obtain 10-katha plots in the Purbachal New Town Project. Following investigation, ACC assistant director Afnan Jannat Keya submitted a chargesheet against 12 individuals on 10 March.
The accused include former Housing and Public Works Ministry officials, former RAJUK officials, and former state minister Sharif Ahmed.
The plot allocation scandal led the ACC to file six separate cases in January, naming Sheikh Hasina; her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy; daughter Saima Wazed; sister Sheikh Rehana; Rehana’s daughter and British MP Tulip Rizwana Siddiq; son Radwan Mujib Siddiq; daughter Azmyna Siddiq and others.
