NCP gets registration with ‘Shapla Koli’, slams writ on RPO

Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) has officially received its Election Commission registration with ‘Shapla Koli’ symbol, while strongly criticizing attempts to overturn recent amendments to the Representation of the People Order (RPO).

NCP on Wednesday received its registration certificate from Election Commission (EC), along with the allocation of ‘Shapla Koli’ symbol.

NCP convener Nahid Islam collected the certificate after a meeting with the Chief Election Commissioner at EC building in Dhaka’s Agargaon.

Speaking to reporters, Nahid praised the newly amended Representation of the People Order (RPO) and condemned the pressure being created to nullify the reform through the court system.

He alleged that a specific political party was exerting influence to promote a single-election-symbol system and was now trying to overturn the reform proposal by filing writ petitions.

NCP has urged the EC to maintain a firm stance on the issue.

Nahid said the party’s central and grassroots leaders had worked tirelessly since the beginning of registration process.

Expressing gratitude to the EC, he stated that the party would contest the upcoming national polls under Shapla Koli symbol.

NCP also voiced concern over the influence of money and political power in elections.

Nahid urged the EC to strictly scrutinize affidavits submitted by candidates and to take immediate action against the use of black money in campaigns.

Commenting on the transfer of deputy commissioners (DCs) and superintendents of police (SPs), he claimed that political interference was evident and warned that such influence could affect election fairness.

The party further called on the EC to ensure proper public communication regarding any referendum, warning that inadequate dissemination could deprive citizens of accurate information.

Nahid also requested special measures to curb misinformation and disinformation during the election period.
