Main accused in Hadi murder flees to India, 2 associates arrested: DMP

Two associates, who were directly involved in Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Mancho, have been arrested by Meghalaya police in India, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Sunday.

Meanwhile, DMP admitted it for the first time that the main accused involved in the killing have fled to India.

Additional Commissioner SN Nazrul Islam shared the information today at a press briefing at the DMP Media Centre.

The arrested are Putti and Sami.

Police had earlier said they suspected Faisal had left Bangladesh, but his whereabouts could not be confirmed at the time.

”Through informal communication with Meghalaya Police, we learned that Putti and Sami have already been arrested. In Haluaghat of Mymensingh district, the accused identified as Philip and Sanjay received Faisal and Alamgir and helped them cross into India’s Meghalaya state. They were later handed over to Putti, who passed them to taxi driver Sami, who took them to Tura town, he said, adding that they unearthed how and who helped the accused flee to India.”

Nazrul Islam said,”The government has already announced that the case will be tried under the Speedy Trial Tribunal. We are working towards that goal, and maximum efforts from both the state and law enforcement agencies are underway to ensure justice for this heinous incident, We will be able to submit the chargesheet within the next seven to ten days, InShaAllah.”

“The real mystery of the murder of Hadi will be revealed. We will disclose the names and addresses of all those behind the incident.”

Law enforcement agencies, including DMP, Detective Branch (DB), Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit (CTTC), Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) began working jointly to identify and arrest those involved following the ‘heinous’ incident, Additional Commissioner Nazrul added.
