Army to return to barracks after new govt takes office: Gen. Waker-Uz-Zaman

Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman on Sunday stated that the Bangladesh Army will return to its barracks once the newly elected government assumes office.

However, he noted that a portion of the Army will remain deployed temporarily to assist in maintaining law and order until the police fully regain control.

The Army Chief made the remarks while addressing personnel of all ranks at CAS Darbar on Sunday morning.

Members serving in United Nations peacekeeping missions also joined the address virtually.

During the event, General Waker-Uz-Zaman expressed gratitude to the Army for its “excellent sense of responsibility” and professionalism in carrying out election-related duties.

Highlighting the Army’s contribution to stabilizing the country’s political environment, he said, “The country and its people will remember this service of the Army.”

He also quoted a verse from the Holy Quran, adding, “Indeed, Allah rewards those who are patient.”
