HC orders closure of high schools throughout Ramadan

The High Court on Sunday ordered that all government and non-government lower secondary and secondary schools remain closed throughout the holy month of Ramadan.

The HC bench of Justice Fahmida Quader and Justice Md Asif Hasan passed the order after hearing a writ petition.

Lawyers Elias Ali Mondal and Tanjina Bobby Liza represented the petitioner during the hearing.

Earlier, a writ petition was filed with the High Court seeking directives to keep schools closed during the holy month of Ramadan. Supreme Court lawyer Md Elias Ali Mondal submitted the writ petition to the relevant High Court bench.

Prior to filing the writ, the lawyer served a legal notice on 5 January, urging the government to shut down schools during Ramadan. The notice was sent to the secretaries of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education.
