Cultural Affairs Minister Advocate Nitai Roy Chowdhury has said he will take necessary steps regarding the release of Chinmoy Das, spokesperson of Bangladesh Sammilito Sanatani Jagaran Jote, who is currently in custody.
Speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of “Mahanagar Paribar Divas-2026” held at Dhakeshwari Temple in Dhaka on Friday, the minister said he would raise the issue with the relevant authorities within a day or two to ensure his prompt release.
He questioned the basis of the allegations against Chinmoy Das that led to his detention, adding that the matter would be addressed through proper channels.
The event was organised by the Mahanagar Sarbajanin Puja Committee.
The minister said Bangladesh is home to diverse communities, including hill people, ethnic minorities and various indigenous groups and stressed that the Ministry of Cultural Affairs is working to preserve their cultural heritage and traditions.
He also suggested that the historic Dhakeshwari Temple should be included in the list of archaeologically significant sites.
Referring to government policy, he said the Prime Minister has clearly stated that there will be no discrimination in the country, adding that unity in diversity remains a core national objective.
The programme was chaired by Mahanagar Sarbajanin Puja Committee President Joyanta Kumar Dev and attended by several political leaders, city officials and cultural figures.
