MAYA Bengal in Motion pays tribute to Jasimuddin

The third edition of MAYA Bengal in Motion Presented by MW Bangladesh paid tribute to poet Jasimuddin on the occasion of International Dance Day and the 123rd anniversary of his birth, celebrating his iconic literary work Nakshi Kanthar Math.

Jointly organised by MW Magazine Bangladesh and MAYA, a natural wellness brand under Square Toiletries Limited, the event was held on Friday at Aloki Convention Centre in Dhaka.

The programme revisited Jasimuddin’s celebrated poem Nakshi Kanthar Math, which has been translated into several languages and was first adapted into a dance drama in 1959 by Bulbul Lalitakala Academy. This year’s edition brought the work back to the stage as a folk dance drama, portraying the emotional story of Rupai and Saju.

The performance featured renowned artists Shamim Ara Nipa, Shibli Mohammad and Nrityanchal, and was curated by Anisul Islam Hero. Through a blend of dance, music and storytelling, they depicted rural Bengal’s simplicity, love and emotional depth.

Managing Director of Square Toiletries Limited Anjan Chowdhury and other distinguished guests attended the event. Audience members remained engaged throughout the evening, responding with strong emotional appreciation.

At the opening session, Editor and Publisher of MW Magazine Bangladesh Rumana Chowdhury and CEO of Square Toiletries Limited Malik Mohammed Sayeed delivered welcome remarks. He highlighted MAYA’s commitment to promoting natural wellness products while also supporting initiatives that celebrate Bangladesh’s art, culture and heritage.

He added that the brand continues to work towards bringing natural products closer to people while encouraging audiences to reconnect with their cultural roots.

The event was broadcast partner Maasranga Television, with Mediacom Limited as PR partner, Aegis Security Forces as security partner, and Sun Communications Limited managing overall production, while Eskay Events handled decoration.

The programme will be aired on Maasranga Television on 29 April, marking International Dance Day.
