Railways Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam has announced that five pairs of special trains will begin operating from Monday to ease passenger travel ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
The railways minister made the announcement while speaking to reporters on Sunday after inspecting Kamalapur Railway Station.
He said train travel demand remains exceptionally high during the Eid season, making rail transport one of the most important travel options for holidaymakers across the country.
Although the railway system faces limitations due to the number of available trains, the minister noted that authorities have increased passenger capacity by 25 percent this year to better accommodate travelers.
“I visited to review the preparations and found the overall environment and cleanliness satisfactory,” he said.
The minister also revealed that three trains had experienced schedule disruptions, adding that authorities have implemented special precautions in vulnerable areas to ensure safer operations.
He acknowledged that security remains inadequate at several railway stations but said efforts are ongoing to strengthen safety measures across the network.
Expressing optimism about smoother Eid travel this year, the minister said 51 new coaches have been added to the railway fleet, enabling nearly 40,000 passengers to travel daily during the Eid period.
