A youth was killed and several others were injured over a trifling mater at a marriage ceremony venue in Moulvibazar Sadar upazila on Sunday noon.
The deceased was identified as Humayun Ahmed, 21, son of Abdur Rahman of Pashchim Sadhuhati village of the upazila and a cousin of bride.
Local and police sources said, the marriage between Khaleda Akther, daughter of Iskondor Miah of Pashchim Sadhuhati village under Manumukh union in Moulvibazar Sadar upazila and Kamru Miah, son of Khusru Miah of Brahmongram in Goyalabazar area of Osmaninagar upazila in Sylhet district was being held at Al-Mahbub Community Centre at Sarkarbazar area of Moulvibazar Sadar upazila.
At one stage, a hot altercation between the deceased and the people of bridegroom was exchanged over sitting arrangement that led a clash leaving several people injured including Humayun.
He later died on the way to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital. The identity of the injured could not be known immediately. The marriage function was postponed and the bridegroom fled the scene immediately after the clash.
Moulvibazar police visited the spot and nabbed three people from the spot for interrogation. Md Abdus Salek, officer-in-charge of Moulvibazar police station confirmed the matter.
