Serving up the spiciest Awards of the British Curry Industry this November

This November, BCA Awards celebrates its 13th year of toasting the finest of the curry industry. The event will take place on November 25th at Park Plaza, Westminster Bridge. The evening will showcase the achievements of astounding restaurants and talented chefs who have mastered their culinary craft to become local “curry heroes”

Our hosts this year are Periscope star and TV Personality Tasmin Lucia-Khan one of the hottest social media influencers right now all the way from Los Angeles who has gained over 40 million likes beating Oprah as well as Ellen DeGeneres in just a matter of months and British Actor, Alexis Conran. Blending their hosting flare they will deliver what promises to be a true celebration of culinary excellence. There will be 3 categories to highlight the best in British curry cuisine from across the UK, including BCA Chef of the Year, BCA Restaurant of the Year and BCA Honour of the year.

Our Chef of the year Head- Atikur Rahman has been working hard with his team to organise a cook off competition involving more than 30 chefs at Hammersmith and Ealing College on Tuesday, the16th of October. Ten chefs will be selected by our panel judges but their names will be announced and honoured on our forthcoming event day.
In a similar way, our Restaurant of the year Head, Mitu Choudhury and his team have shortlisted 30 restaurants of the highest quality from different regions – the actual selection process will be held on the 30th of October at 1 Canada Square, Canary Wharf. Ten winners will be selected on that day but their names will only be announced on our event day as usual.

Prime Minister Rt Hon Teresa May MP, in a special article message last year for the event expressed “The Bangladeshi catering industry is key to our national life economically representing about £4billion a year and is also an important part of Britain socially and culturally. Our high streets would not be the same without the colour and vibrancy of so many excellent Bangladeshi restaurants”

The industry is facing some tough challenges at present with the shortage of chefs resulting in the closure of many restaurants, however BCA Awards is a positive reminder of the achievements the industry has made and can continue making by staying united and investing in working together to secure an enhanced future for the Curry Industry that has now become a vibrant part of Britain’s heritage and has created millions of curry lovers across the nation.

In thirteen short years, BCA Awards has firmly established itself as one of the most important events in the British Curry Industry calendar. The ceremony this year, will host a number of dignitaries, celebrities, politicians and highly influential members of the catering industry, who will gather to applaud this year’s winners.

Established in 1960, Bangladesh Caterers Association (BCA) today represents over 12,000 British Bangladeshi restaurants and takeaways. BCA prides itself on cultural heritage and promoting the authentic taste of curry.

M M Kamal Yakub, BCA President, says: “We are delighted with the phenomenal achievements that the British Curry industry has made thus far, an industry we are proud to say was seeded in this country by our Bangladeshi ancestors. The BCA Awards is our way of giving back to loyal members and industry by expressing our unconditional support and motivation”

BCA Secretary General Mr Oli Khan, says, It has been overwhelming to see the support our industry is receiving from so many Parliamentarians, Sponsors and of course our members, making me feel immensely proud to be a leader of this organization. Together in unity everything is possible, we will keep working hard to create solutions to keep our industry alive and thriving.

Recent recommendations by Migration Advisory Committee(MAC) to the Home office looks promising, hopefully the door to recruiting low skills staff will  open for us in the near future. MAC has also recommended that the option for recruiting highly skilled staff under Tier 2 should continue. We are continously lobbying the Govt to relax the stringent criterion.

Chief Treasurer Mr Saidur Rahman Bipul Says “Our members are a pillar of strength for our organisation and we are tremendously proud to celebrate and commend their hard work and achievements”

Mr Muzahid Ali choudhury head of award and dinner Committee says ; This is an exciting year for the award and dinner committee . Gifted and creative chefs are queuing to enter the competition with their innovative, top-notch recipes. Restaurateurs are knotting their ties with great enthusiasm to enter the competition to show the professionalism they established and achieved. On 25th November, the park plaza hotel’s five star venue will be glittered with huge entertainments, packed with celebrities  and dignitaries alongside BCA families. The night will be carried on with five star food, spiced up with classic and contemporary dishes to delight your palette. The army of BCA volunteers have relentlessly put their effort into the success of this event.
