BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said the ruling Awami League government must take the responsibility if anything untoward happens to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia if she is not sent abroad for treatment.
Referring to Khaleda Zia’s health condition, the BNP leader said her physicians said it will be difficult to save her life if she is not allowed to go abroad for advanced medical treatment immediately
“The government will have to take all the responsibility if something happens to Khaleda Zia for not getting treatment abroad,” Fakhrul said while addressing a party rally at Dholaikhal in the capital on Monday afternoon.
He said Awami League has lost its head due to the United States’ announcement regarding visa restriction on Bangladeshi individuals. He also mentioned that the US visa restrictions would have an impact on investment.
Dhaka Metropolitan South unit of the BNP organised the rally for its one-point demand, including the resignation of the government, election under a non-partisan government, and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s release.
Fakhrul warned the government that if their demands are not met in due time, they will announced tougher movement to ousted the government. Moreover, the BNP leader alleged that the government is planning a rigged election next year.
“But this time, no one, including the United Nations, will accept this. The people of the country will not accept it as well”, he added.
Meanwhile, BNP issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the government to release and send party chairperson Khaleda Zia abroad for better treatment. He said the government would have to take the responsibility if something happened.
He made the announcement on Sunday at a rally in front of the party’s Nayapaltan headquarters in the capital.
