A man was killed as a truck overturned into a ditch at Kulaura upazila in Moulvibazar district on Tuesday afternoon.
The accident took place at around 3.30pm in Krishnapur area under Bhatera union of the upazila.
The deceased was identified as Suleman Mia, 40, son of late Samsul Haque, a resident of Nijampur village under Fenchuganj upazila of the district.
Quoting locals, police said a fertilizer-laden truck was heading towards Kulaura from Fenchuganj Fertilizer Factory. On the way, when it reached Krishnapur area, the vehicle overturned into a roadside ditch as its driver lost control over the steering of the vehicle. At that time, Suleman died being crushed under the truck,
Being informed, firefighters from Kulaura Fire Service and Civil Defence Station rushed there and recovered the body, said Md Solaiman Ahmed, warhouse inspector of the station.
Kulaura Police Station sub-inspector Habibur Rahman said police seized the truck from the spot, however, its driver managed to flee the scene.
Legal action is underway in this regard, the SI added.
