Election Commissioner Md Anisur Rahman on Sunday said around 2,000 local and foreign observers have submitted applications to monitor Bangladesh’s upcoming national parliamentary election.
A large number of foreign observers are coming here to monitor the polls, the commissioner said at a views-exchange meeting at Hasan Raja auditorium of Sunamganj Shilpakala Academy.
Most observers will be granted on-arrival visas, said the election commissioner.
“Among the foreign observers, a long list of observers has come from the American embassy. Their list is being scrutinized by the Ministry of Home Affairs. They will be issued visas through the home ministry. They will observe with their own eyes how the election preparation is going.”
“There is no pressure from abroad regarding the election,” said Anisur.
Adequate security arrangements will be made for observers. They will monitor the election in their own way, he said.
