MP Anar murder: DB team went to Nepal

A team of Detective Branch (DB) of police left Dhaka for Nepal on Saturday morning as part of investigation to find out those involved in the Jhenidah-4 constituency MP Anwarul Azim Anar murder.

A four-member team led by DB chief and Additional Commissioner Mohammad Harun-or-Rashid went to Nepal this, morning.

Before leaving Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, DB Chief Harun said, “Arrested accused provided us some secret information, those will be cross checked. We have heard that main planner Shaheen’s associate Siam was arrested in Nepal. There is a possibility that other accused may also go to Nepal. Considering all these, we are going to Nepal.”

Earlier, the DB chief said that Md Aktaruzzaman Shahin is now staying in the USA, while Siam Hossain in Kathmandu of Nepal.

It has been learnt that diplomatic efforts are already underway on behalf of the Bangladesh mission in Nepal to bring back Siam to the country.

Akteruzzaman Shahin, the mastermind behind the killing according to the police, also went to Kathmandu from Dhaka through Delhi on May 20. Later he moved to Dubai. From there, he flew back to the US.

Lawmaker Anwarul Azim went to India on May 12 through Darshana-Gede border for medical treatment. He got into his friend Gopal Biswas’ house at Baranagar in North Kolkata of West Bengal.

The following day, he left to see a doctor at noon and was expected to return in the evening. However, a WhatsApp message from his phone to Biswas stated that he went to Delhi instead and would call if necessary.

Since then, he could not be reached by phone.

On May 22, the Indian media, citing Indian police, informed that Anwarul Azim MP of Bangladesh was murdered at a flat at Sanjeeva Gardens in posh New Town area.
