Ex-IGP Benazir won’t be given any more time: ACC lawyer

Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed will not be given any more time to appear before the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for questioning regarding allegations of amassing illegal wealth.

ACC lawyer Khurshid Alam said this while talking to journalists on the Supreme Court premises in Dhaka on Thursday.

The ACC fixed June 23 for questioning the former IGP at the commission office regarding his alleged accumulation of illegal wealth following a prayer.

Earlier on May 28, ACC summoned Benazir Ahmed and his family members to appear before its Segunbagicha office on June 6 and June 9 respectively to quiz them for their indulgence in corruption.

On June 5, Benazir Ahmed, through his lawyer, submitted an application to the ACC seeking a 15-day extension.

If Benazir fails to appear by the due date, legal action as per the law will follow, the ACC lawyer told reporters.

Khurshid Alam noted that investigations against former IGP Benazir Ahmed and his family members concerning a substantial amount of assets beyond their known income are progressing in a full swing.

He further said evidence of additional illegal assets has been found against Benazir, and the ACC plans to soon petition the court to confiscate these assets.
