JCD leader among 2 killed in Habiganj road crash

Two motorcyclists, including a local leader of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), were killed in a road accident at Chunarughat upazila of Habiganj district on Saturday night.

The accident took place around 10 PM at Chandrichara Tea Garden area in the upazila.

The deceased were identified as Hafiz Sarkar, son of Moulad Mia from Sudiakhala village under Shayestaganj upazila, and Mostafizur Rahman, son of Kimmat Ali from Talugarai village in the same upazila. Hafiz served as a senior joint convenor of Shayestaganj Municipal Chhatra Dal.

Quoting witnesses and locals, police said Hafiz and Mustafizur went to visit the tea garden on Saturday night. On the way back to home, the motorcycle driver lost control over the bike and fell on the road while a truck ran over them from behind. They both died on the spot.

The truck fled the scene immediately after the accident, said police sources.

Chunarughat Police Station officer-in-charge Hillol Roy confirmed the incident and added that the bodies were handed over to the families and no case has been filed yet in this regard.
