Gold trader shot at Banasree, 200-bhori ornaments robbed

Robbers have shot a jewellery shop owner in the capital’s Banasree area and snatched away his bag containing gold items and cash.

The incident happened approximately 10:30PM on Sunday on Road No 7 in Banasree’s D Block in front of businessman Anwar Hossain’s home.

Rampura Police Station chief Ataur Rahman Akand said Anwar, 55, was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) with bullet wounds.

Anowar owns ‘Alankar Jewellers’ at Banasree and usually returns home at that time every day, the police officer added.

“A group of armed men on motorcycles waylaid Anwar near his house. They then tried to snatch away his bag containing gold and cash. At one stage of scuffle, they shot his legs and fled after snatching the bag, which, according to Anwar, contained 233.27-bhori of gold ornaments and cash Tk 100,000,” Ataur said.

Later, a video of the attack has gone viral on Facebook.

Anwar informed media at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital that he had tried to resist but was shot and stabbed before the robbers snatched his valuables.
