Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) President AHM Shafiquzzaman has expressed concern over the difficulties entrepreneurs face in operating businesses in Bangladesh, saying the current environment creates numerous obstacles for investors and discourages fair and transparent business practices.
“There is no scope for doing business honestly in the country,” he said.
Speaking at an event attended by business representatives and members of the media, CAB president said conducting business properly in the country often feels as though entrepreneurs are being punished rather than supported.
He noted that many businesspeople are forced to find alternative ways to continue operations because of various barriers and complications in the system.
Referring to the country’s energy sector, Shafiquzzaman stressed the need for greater discipline and reform, saying investment would naturally increase if stability and proper management could be ensured.
He also highlighted infrastructure and border-related restrictions as major concerns, warning that excessive limitations on imports and exports could negatively affect trade and economic growth.
He said unnecessary barriers in trade and commerce are not beneficial for the country’s overall development and urged the government to adopt more business-friendly policies.
The president expressed hope that the concerns of the business community would receive proper attention.
