The All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Bangladesh held a meeting at the House of Commons today to discuss enforced disappearances in Bangladesh.
Hosted by Apsana Begum MP, Chair of the APPG on Bangladesh, the meeting engaged an audience of policymakers, academics, prominent activists, and diaspora community members.
The meeting was addressed by Dr Nabila Idris, a former member of the Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances and a former Commissioner of Bangladesh’s National Human Rights Commission (under the Interim Government 2024-2026).
The meeting followed shortly after the 2026 International Week of the Disappeared in May, the publication in January 2026 of the Commission of Inquiry’s final report, and the April 2026 visit by the UN Special Rapporteur on Torture’s visit to Bangladesh.
Commenting, Apsana Begum MP said,
“The final report of the Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances, published in January, paints a harrowing picture. Cases of enforced disappearances, involving torture, denials of legal rights, and other grave human rights violations in Bangladesh, represent crimes of the most serious nature.
“The APPG is aware that leading human rights organisations globally have urged the government of Bangladesh to pursue legally binding measures to ensure non-recurrence of enforced disappearances.
“The Bangladeshi people’s pursuit of true justice and accountability for these horrific crimes must be prioritised with meaningful action, in the interests of survivors and victims, and to secure a long-term democratic future that upholds human rights.
