Shahjalal Airport’s third terminal to open by end of this year: Aviation Minister

Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam has announced that the third terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport is set to be inaugurated by the end of this year.

Speaking at a programme on the Civil Aviation Authority’s 30-year master plan in the capital on Sunday (21 June), the minister said the government also plans to begin work on Bogura Airport and other airports across the country as part of efforts to transform Bangladesh into a regional aviation hub.

Afrozza Khanam said the newly adopted civil aviation master plan will serve as a strategic roadmap for the development of Bangladesh’s aviation sector over the next 20 to 30 years and beyond.

According to the minister, the plan will facilitate airport infrastructure development, modernization of air navigation services, expansion of the airline industry, development of skilled human resources, enhancement of safety and security measures, environmental sustainability, and technology-driven growth aligned with international standards and demands.

The workshop, organized to formulate Bangladesh’s first-ever integrated national civil aviation master plan, was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB), the armed forces, and other relevant agencies.
