
The 11-party Opposition Alliance, led by Jamaat-e-Islami, will launch a 36-day programme on 1 July to observe the second anniversary of the July Uprising.
Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General Hamidur Rahman Azad announced the programme at a press conference held at the party head office, Moghbazar in the capital on Thursday.
As per the plans, the alliance will host seminars at all the district headquarters and major cities during 1-15 July to garner public support for the implementation of the July Charter referendum verdict.
On 6 July, the alliance activists, with support from the martyrs’ families, will form a human chain in front of the National Parliament and present a memorandum to the Speaker, calling for the implementation of the charter, which outlines a set of state and constitutional reform measures.
On 8 July, the alliance will host a major seminar in the capital in support of the July Charter, which was endorsed in the 12 February referendum.
On 20 July, a discussion session with the participation of women will be held in the capital. On 23-25 July, painting and photography exhibitions commemorating the uprising will be hosted. On 31 July, special prayers will be arranged at all the mosques in the country and the shrines and temples of minority religious groups.
On 5 August, rallies will be held in every administrative centre of the country extending to the upazila level.
Furthermore, on 4 July, the pre-announced mass processions will be staged across the country, except the capital.
The 11-party alliance has also planned graffiti painting, memorial rallies and other events during the 36-day period. The dates of these events will be fixed later by the liaison committee of the opposition alliance, Hamidur Rahman Azad said at the presser.
