MP Nazrul remanded for 4 days, wife for 1 day

A Dhaka court on Monday (September 21) granted a four-day remand for Satkhira-4 MP Gazi Nazrul Islam and a one-day remand for his first wife Maksuda Islam in an abetment to suicide case.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ehsanul Islam issued the remand order following a hearing on a police petition, confirmed DMP Prosecution Division Sub-Inspector Rafiqul Islam.

Police recovered the body of the MP’s 19-year-old second wife, Mst Mariam Khatun, from Flat 203 on the third floor of Building 5 at NAM Bhaban in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar on Sunday evening. Police took Gazi Nazrul and Maksuda Islam into custody for questioning shortly after the recovery.

The victim’s father, SM Masum Billah, subsequently filed a case at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station alleging abetment to suicide. The case names MP Gazi Nazrul, his first wife Maksuda, and Mariam’s uncle Md Obaidur Rahman as accused.
