Extradite war criminal Chowdhury Mueenuddin

Once again Bengali diaspora in London demanded that convicted war criminal
and operation in charge of intellectual killings Chowdhury Mueenuddin be
handed over to Bangladesh authorities.
Members of martyred families who had gathered in a Candle light vigil to
observe ‘Martyred Intellectuals Day’ on Monday 14 Dec 2015 in front of the
Shahid Minar in Altab Ali Park, Whitechapel reminded the Vigil that
Mueenuddin was found guilty of war crimes by Bangladesh’s International
Crimes Tribunal (ICT) in 2013. He was sentenced in absentia after the court
found his involvedment in the abduction and murder of 18 intellectuals –
nine Dhaka University teachers, six journalists and three physicians.

Martyred Intellectuals Day (Shaheed Buddhijibi Dibosh) is observed in
Bangladesh to commemorate those who were killed by the Pakistani military
forces and their collaborators at the end of the Bangladesh’s 1971
Liberation War.

Sensing an imminent defeat, the Pakistani occupation forces and their local
collaborators Razakar, members of Jamaat-e-Islami, Al-Badr and Al-Shams
para-militia abducted and killed Bengali intellectuals and professionals to
cripple a newborn nation intellectually.

Renowned academics, teachers, litterateurs, doctors, engineers, journalists
and other eminent personalities were dragged out of their homes blindfolded,
killed and then dumped in killing grounds.
The Vigil was organised by the UK Nirmul Committee and attended by pro
libation organisations & individuals included members of Gonojagoron Moncho
& Extradition Campaign. At the beginning of Vigil one minute silence was
observed in respect of the martyrs. The vigil ended with national anthem and
a concluding address by Nirmul Committee’s Acting President Ishaque Kajol.
The event was conducted by Nirmul Committee’s Acting Secretary Jamal Khan.
