Shahid Janani’s birthday celebrated

The UK Nirmul Committee celebrated Shahid Janani Jahanara Imam’s 87th birth anniversary on Tuesday 3 May 2016, 5.30pm at the Montefiore Centre, East london.

A brief discussion meeting was chaired by Acting Chair Syed Enam & conducted by Asst Secretary Jamal Khan where speakers highlighted the life & works of Jahanara Imam.

Speakers at the gathering said that it was the movement initiated by Jahanara Imam in 1992 that led to the formation of International Crimes Tribunal in 2010 which has so far tried 27 war criminals. The speakers said now the demand is to ban Jamaat and try those Pakistani military personnel who were directly responsible Bangladesh genocide in 1971.

Those who spoke at the gathering were Awami League’s President Sultan Shariff, Awami League Secretary Syed Faruk, journalist S U Ahmed Belal , central executive member Ansar Ahmed  Ullah, Research Secretary Matiar Chowdhury, Treasurer Shah M R Belal,   , ex Secretary Syeda Naznin Sultana Shikha, Organising Secretary Ruby Huq, executive member Anjumanara Anju, Gonojagoron Moncho’s Kamrul Hasan Tushar, Sinthia Arefin, Torun League’s President Jubair Ahmed, executive member Waliur Rahman, Angur Ali, Mazumdar Ali & Alam Hussain amongst others.

At the beginning the meeting remembered and paid homage to its president Dr B B Chaudhuri who passed away on 1 May. The event ended with cake cutting and serving of refreshment.
