Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a drive arrested the main accused in Jilani muder case at Kulaura upazila in Moulvibazar district from the capital’s Bhatara area on Saturday night.
RAB-10 Adjutant officer and Assistant Superintendent of Police in Moulvibazar Aminul Islam confirmed the matter to the newsmen on Sunday night.
According to the case statement, on 3 July, 2023, the victim Hossain Mohammad Jilani, 22, was on the way to Kulaura to drop his younger brother to a bus stand in the area.
When they reached in front of North Bazaar area in the municipality, the main accused Abdullah Al Mizu, 22, along with his 13 to 14 associates attacked the victim with locally made lethal weapons over a previous enmity, leaving Jilani critically injured.
The victim then, died while undergoing treatment at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital on July 7.
Subsequently, the victim’s father Md Abdul Hamid lodged a murder case with Kulaura Police Station accusing nine named and four to five unnamed persons.
Later, a team of RAB-10 conducted a raid in the capital’s Bhatara area, on the basis of a letter sent by the investigation officer of the case, and arrested the main accused on Saturday night (20 January, 2024), said ASP Aminul Islam, adding that the arrested was then, handed over to Kulaura police station.
He also said that during primary questioning, Mizu confessed to his involvement in this killing.
The accused then, sent to jail following a court order, added the ASP.
