Violence in Sylhet: 139 arrested in 11 cases

Police have arrested at least 139 individuals in 11 cases relating to violence and arson attacks during quota reform movement in Sylhet.

Mohammad Saiful Islam, deputy-commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police (media) confirmed the information on Saturday.

Among the cases, six cases were filed in Kotwali police station, four in Jalalabad police station and one in Dakkhin Surma police station against 244 named people and 16,015 unnamed individuals, he said.

The cases were filed over assaulting police, obstructing police from performing duties under the explosives substances Act and the special powers Act, added the police official.
