BNP, Khelafat Majlis demand election this year, reach consensus on 7 issues

Leaders of Khelafat Majlish held a meeting with senior leaders of BNP on Wednesday (January 22).

The meeting was held at the BNP Chairperson’s political office at Gulshan in the capital. The meeting was held with BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. The party’s standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan was present.

Both BNP and Khelafat Majlis reached consensus on seven different issues including holding the next general election by 2025 on competition of necessary reforms.

A nine-member delegation of Khelafat Majlis took part in the talks with the BNP leaders in the wake of ongoing political situation and ahead of the next parliamentary election. They held a two-hour long meeting.

Following the meeting, Nazrul Islam Khan told reporters that Khelafat Majlis was one of those political parties which has long been involved in the anti-Awami League government with BNP. “We struggled being united in an alliance, launched movement together. Khelafat Majlis is one of the political parties which played a very active role in ousting the fascist government.”

The BNP leader said they held a threadbare talks. They also discussed how to move ahead to fulfill the hopes and inspirations of people in the context of political and socio-economic situation prevailing in the country.

“We have long been struggled on street reaching consensus on various national issues. There is no disagreement between BNP and Khelafat Majlis. Rather, we have reached consensus on all issues.”

Khelafat Majlis Secretary General Ahmad Abdul Kader said: “We have reached consensus on seven issues. Those are continuation of intra-party dislogues to consolidate the national unity; holding the national election by 2025 after necessary reforms within the shortest possible time; controlling the prices of essentials; taking initiatives to improve the law and order, playing positive roles by all to uphold Islamic values and maintaining religious harmony; and maintaining the national unity so that the deposed autocrat and fascist cannot rise again on the soil of Bangladesh; trying the culprits involved in murders, enforced disappearances, killings and tortures during the fascist Awami League’s 15 years’ rule, and withdrawal of all false cases filed against alems and ulemas during the rule of Awami League government.
