Graft case against Yunus dismissed

The Supreme Court’s Appellate Division on Wednesday dismissed a corruption case filed against Prof Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser of the interim government.

An Appellate Division, headed by Chief Justice Dr Syed Refaat Ahmed, issued this order.

Barrister Md Abdullah Al Mamun was present in the court on behalf of Yunus, while Adv Asif Hossain was present for the ACC.

The six others pleaders are Grameen Telecom Managing Director (MD) Nazmul Islam, Directors Ashraful Hasan, Naznin Sultana, Md Shahjahan, Nurjahan Begum and Prof SM Huzzatul Islam Latifee.

The ACC filed the case on May 30, 2023, as its deputy director Gulshan Anwar later filed the chargesheet against a total of 14 accused.

The High Court on July 24, 2024, had dismissed an appeal for cancellation of the case against seven, including then Grameen Telecom Chairman Prof Yunus, filed by the ACC.

The apex court on October 21, 2024, allowed a leave to appeal petition filed by Prof Yunus and six officials of the company against the High Court order.
