India pushes in 48 more Bangladeshis through Moulvibazar border

Indian Border Security Force (BSF) has pushed 48 Bangladeshi nationals into Bangladesh through Pallathal border under Barlekha upazila in Moulvibazar district.

The group was detained early Thursday morning (July 3) by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).

According to sources from the 52 BGB Battalion, the individuals—who include 18 children, 15 men, and 15 women—were found wandering near Pallathal Punji, a remote border area under the jurisdiction of Pallathal Border Outpost (BOP).

BGB officials said the detainees claimed they had illegally entered India through border points in Kurigram and Jashore districts seeking medical treatment and employment. They were later pushed back into Bangladesh by BSF personnel.

Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Ariful Haque Chowdhury, commander of the 52 BGB Battalion, said that during initial questioning, the detainees identified themselves as residents of various districts, including Jashore, Bagerhat, Chapainawabganj, Barguna, Barishal, and Kurigram.

Legal action is being taken against them after verifying their identities, the BGB official added.

With this latest incident, a total of 452 individuals have reportedly been pushed into Moulvibazar district by India in recent months. Among them, 341 entered through Barlekha upazila, 10 through Juri, 21 through Kulaura, 19 through Sreemangal, and 61 through Kamalganj. Authorities believe many others may have crossed undetected.
