2 shops fined in Sunamganj

Two shops in Sunamganj were fined a total of Tk 35,000 for selling expired goods and providing customers with less than the accurate weight.

The fines were imposed during a joint drive conducted today by the Sunamganj District Administration and the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI).

The operation aimed to raise awareness among both businesses and consumers about product expiry dates and deceptive practices.

Masum Traders was fined Tk 25,000 under the BSTI Act-2018 for manufacturing and selling bread and biscuits without a Certification Mark (CM) license. An additional fine of Tk 5,000 was imposed under the Weights and Measures Standard Act-2018 for failing to label the production date, net weight, and expiry date on the packaging.

Another establishment, Anwar Mishtanno Bhandar, was fined Tk 5,000 under the same act for not including essential information—such as production date, net weight, and expiry date—on its packaged fermented milk products.

Authorities have stated that such drives will continue to ensure consumer safety and promote compliance with standards.
