The Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court, Sylhet on Sunday set January 7 to deliver the verdict in the case of the alleged custodial death of Raihan Ahmed at a city police station.
Raihan, who was 34-year-old at the time of his death, died on October 11, 2020 allegedly after he had endured brutal torture at the Bandar Bazar outpost of the Sylhet Kotwali police.
The court’s public prosecutor Badrul Islam told that Judge Munsi Abdul Mazid fixed the date of delivering the verdict in the case after completion of the argument in the afternoon.
‘Only suspended assistant sub-inspector Ashek-e-Elahi was presented before the court during the argument, as other five accused are absconding,’ the PP said.
According to the case document filed by his wife, Raihan, who lived in Hawlader Para in the city, called his mother from an unknown number in the early hours of October 11 and told her that the police took him to the Bandarbazar outpost and demanded Tk 10,000 for his release.
