Smuggled goods worth Tk 24.75 lakh seized in Habiganj

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB-55) seized smuggled Indian cumin worth approximately Tk 24.75 lakh from Madhabpur upazila of Habiganj district early Sunday.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of BGB officials took up a strategic position at the Jagdishpur Muktijoddha Chattar area in the upazila, about four kilometres inside Bangladesh from the border.

At around 5:00 AM, they signalled a sand-laden truck to stop, searched it and recovered a large consignment of Indian cumin worth Tk 24.75 lakh concealed beneath the sand.

A BGB official confirmed the incident and said that the seized goods will be handed over to Habiganj Customs authorities following legal procedures.
