The traditional Pahela Baishakh celebration organised by Chhayanaut has begun at Ramna Batamul in the capital, marking the start of the Bengali New Year with cultural performances.
The program started on Tuesday morning shortly after sunrise with a choral performance of the song “Jago Alok-Logone.” The venue came alive as people gathered to welcome the new year, leaving behind the past.
This event, regarded as a symbol of Bengali cultural identity, features classical music, poetry, and rhythmic performances in the fresh morning air. Around 200 artists are participating, expressing hopes for peace, prosperity, and the end of negativity.
According to Chhayanaut authorities, this year’s program includes a total of 22 performances—8 choral songs, 14 solo songs, and 2 poetry recitations. The main program will conclude with the national anthem.
Thousands of people from different parts of Dhaka, regardless of religion or background, gathered in the Ramna area early in the morning to take part in the celebration.
Although strict security measures are in place, the festive atmosphere remains vibrant. After the Chhayanaut programme, the celebrations will continue with the traditional Baishakhi Shobhajatra procession, marking the formal welcoming of the Bengali New Year.
