Kolakar Productions has announced the upcoming UK premiere of the documentary “Mamun: In Praise of Shadows,” which will be showcased as part of the 28th edition of the UK Asian Film Festival 2026. The film, directed by Makbul Chowdhury, offers an intimate exploration of the life and work of renowned Bangladeshi portrait photographer Nasir Ali Mamun.
The premiere is scheduled for May 3, 2026, at the Garden City Cinema in Covent Garden, London. Following the screening, audiences will have the opportunity to participate in a Q&A session with director Makbul Chowdhury, moderated by Anita Horam.
“Mamun: In Praise of Shadows” is a feature-length documentary that delves into Mamun’s artistic vision and his ability to capture the essence of a nation through his portraits. The film employs a compelling mix of cinematic storytelling and still imagery to highlight the quiet power and emotional depth of Mamun’s work, emphasising that “every face tells a story.”
The UK Asian Film Festival, renowned as one of the longest-running South Asian film festivals outside India, will celebrate its 2026 theme, “Stories That Bind Us,” emphasising narratives that connect diverse communities, cultures, and generations. Produced by Makbul Chowdhury of Kolakar Productions Ltd, based in Birmingham, the documentary promises to be a poignant tribute to the artistry and philosophy of Nasir Ali Mamun, set against the backdrop of a festival dedicated to storytelling and cultural connection.
