
Police have handed over 10 Bangladeshi nationals, who were pushed in through Muroichhara frontier in Kulaura upazila of Moulvibazar, to their family members.
The handover took place at Kulaura Police Station on Friday afternoon in the presence of their relatives.
The individuals were identified as Rahul Talukdar, 27, of Mallikpur village in Mohanganj upazila of Netrokona, Juboraj Sarkar, 42, of Jogimara village in Khaliajuri upazila, Habul Das, 48, of Bhangadhar village in Dirai upazila of Sunamganj, his wife Sumitra Das, 44, daughters Anamika Das, 17, and Bhumi Das, 7, Hemanta Das, 16, Gopal Das, 27, of Hamtpur village, Md. Al Amin, 35, of Boktargao village in Sadar upazila, and his wife Fatema Begum, 19.
According to police sources, the Muroichhara border lies adjacent to the Indian state of Tripura.
On Friday morning, a patrol team from the local Murichhara camp of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Battalion-46 spotted the people moving suspiciously in the Muroichhara tea garden area.
The patrol team detained them and took them to the camp for questioning. During interrogation, the individuals said they had entered India illegally at different times. They were recently detained by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) and later pushed back across the border into Bangladesh.
After verifying their identities, BGB handed them over to the police. Later, the individuals were formally reunited with their relatives, said Kulaura Police Station Sub-Inspector Farhad Matabbar.
