20 September 2024: EastHands Charity is proud to announce the successful distribution of 40 high-quality mobile phones on Friday, 20 September, in partnership with the Good Things Foundation. The giveaway event took place at the London Bangla Press Club Office, in the presence of community activists, EastHands volunteers, and trustees. The initiative aims to support financially struggling individuals and low-income families who are finding it increasingly difficult to afford essential mobile technology due to the rising cost of living.
This initiative follows EastHands’ previous campaign of distributing free SIM cards in collaboration with Virgin Mobile, Three G Mobile, and Vodafone, which received a tremendous response from the local community. The addition of mobile devices to this ongoing effort is designed to address the critical need for digital access among vulnerable groups.
The mobile device initiative, which was launched through Runner TV, saw an overwhelming response, with all 40 phones being allocated within just two hours. Hundreds of local residents reached out, demonstrating the significant need for affordable mobile devices in the area. While the charity was unable to meet the full demand, EastHands remains committed to sourcing more mobile phones and SIM cards to support those in need.
At the London Bangla Press Club’s smartphone distribution event, attendees included EastHands’ trustee and chairman Nabab Uddin, London Bangla Press Club president Muhammad Jubair, trustee Babul Haque, CEO A. S. M. Masum, journalist and football coordinator Ahad Chowdhury Babu, volunteer coordinator Rumana Rakhi, Mohammad Kinu, Mohammad Abdul Quaiyum, Biswadip Das, EastHands ambassador and journalist Polly Rahman, and many others.
London Bangla Press Club president Muhammad Jubair stated that EastHands delivers outstanding and unique projects, with today’s smartphone distribution event being a prime example. He added that all those who attended are suffering from the cost-of-living crisis, and these smartphones will be very useful for them.
EastHands chairman Nabab Uddin said that EastHands charity is working in partnership with the National Data Bank and Good Things Foundation. In this batch, they have provided 40 free smartphones. Prior to this, with the support of the National Data Bank, they provided free SIM cards with internet to 40 people.
