Eight anthrax patients have been detected in Rangpur’s Pirgachha, according to Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR).
Rangpur Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr. Ruhul Amin confirmed the matter on Tuesday night.
Besides, people with anthrax symptoms found at Mithapukur and Kaunia upazilas.
In early August, cattle were found started dying one after another in Pirgachha upazila. After that, the Health and Livestock Department was alerted. Later, a delegation from the IEDCR went to the upazila on September 13 and 14 and collected samples from 12 people. Of those, anthrax was detected in eight sample.
Doctors say that people are infected with the disease when they come into contact with the mucus, saliva, blood, meat, bones and intestines of anthrax-infected cattle.
