Ethan Mbappe denies PSG with late equaliser for Lille as Lyon stunned by Toulouse

Ethan Mbappe came off the bench to score a dramatic late equaliser against his former club Paris Saint-Germain, earning Lille a 1-1 draw in Ligue 1 on Sunday. The result allowed an injury-hit PSG to move one point clear at the top of the French league, despite dropping two points.

The reigning champions had fielded a rotated side for their visit to Lille, and looked on course for victory after substitute Nuno Mendes curled in a stunning free-kick from 30 yards in the 66th minute. But 18-year-old Mbappe — younger brother of Kylian, who watched from the stands — had the final say with a composed finish two minutes from time, firing through the legs of Lucas Beraldo and past a wrong-footed Lucas Chevalier.

Earlier, PSG had wasted key chances, including a first-half miss by Bradley Barcola after a long run through on goal. Lille responded strongly after the break, with veteran striker Olivier Giroud going close and Nabil Bentaleb testing Chevalier. Mendes’ goal looked set to seal the win, but Ethan Mbappe’s late strike denied the visitors.

Lille now sit seventh, five points behind PSG.

Emersonn double stuns Lyon

In one of the weekend’s biggest shocks, Toulouse came from behind to beat Lyon 2-1 at Groupama Stadium, thanks to a late brace from new Brazilian signing Emersonn. The 21-year-old, a summer arrival from Turkish club Goztepe, struck twice after coming off the bench — first with a deflected effort in the 87th minute, then heading in the winner deep into stoppage time.

Lyon had taken a first-half lead through Malick Fofana and appeared on track to briefly go top of the table, but were undone by a dramatic late turnaround. Assistant coach Jorge Maciel called it a “cruel but not surprising result,” criticising the team for relaxing too early.

The defeat drops Lyon to fourth, while Toulouse climb to ninth on 10 points.

Elsewhere in Ligue 1

Monaco and Nice played out a thrilling 2-2 draw in the Côte d’Azur derby. Sofiane Diop scored twice for Nice — including a penalty — despite his side being reduced to 10 men before halftime. Ansu Fati netted two penalties for Monaco to ensure a share of the spoils. Monaco now sit fifth, three points behind PSG.

Strasbourg produced the performance of the weekend with a 5-0 demolition of struggling Angers. The win, following their midweek UEFA Conference League victory over Slovan Bratislava, lifts Strasbourg to third, level on points with Marseille and Lyon.

Rennes squandered a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Le Havre, failing to capitalise on their strong start in a frustrating outing.
