
A man allegedly stabbed his wife to death at Kanaighat upazila in Sylhet on Tuesday early hours.
The diseased Farhana Begum, 32, was the wife of Sohel Ahmed of Baraband village at Lakshimprasad Pashchim union, police said.
The victim’s brother Selim Ahmed told reporters that Sohel, a drug addict, regularly tortured his sister Farhana, whos is a mother of three children.
He said that Farhana had gone to her parental house several days ago after being seriously beaten by her husband, before ultimately going to their maternal grandfather’s house of Mahail village at Darbast union of the Jaintapur upazila on Monday afternoon.
Selim alleged that Sohel along with one of his cousins brought back Farhana to his house in the night and stabbed her to death at about 2:00am Tuesday.
Kanaighat police station officer-in-charge Aminul Islam confirmed the incident.
He said that the police rushed to the spot immediately after receiving the news and sent the victim’s body to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
‘Efforts are under way to arrest the victim’s husband due to his suspected involvement in the killing incident,’ the police officer said in the afternoon.
