Children’s deaths from measles, symptoms cross 700

Deaths among children from measles and related symptoms crossed 700 on Friday morning, with four new fatalities recorded over the past 24 hours.

All the four children died from measles-like symptoms during 8am Thursday-8am Friday, and no death was reported due to confirmed measles infection, said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Over the same 24-hour period, 869 people were diagnosed with suspected measles or measles-like symptoms, while 107 people were diagnosed with confirmed measles cases.

Since 15 March, 97,522 people have been diagnosed with suspected measles or measles-like symptoms, and 11,549 people have been infected with confirmed measles cases.

Among the suspected measles patients, 81,283 have been admitted to hospitals. As many as 77,613 people have been discharged following recovery.

Since 15 March, 702 children have died from measles and related symptoms.
