Police arrested the prime accused in a case for abducting and killing a six-year-old schoolboy in Chhatak upazila of Sunamganj district on Wednesday.
The arrestee is Suyabur Rahman, 32, of Bramonjulia village in the upazila, said Ashraful Islam, sub-inspector of Dakkhin Surma Police Station in Sylhet district.
On secret information, a police team raided a restaurant in Sylhet Central Bus Terminal area at 8:45am and arrested Suyabur.
During primary interrogation, Suyabur confessed to abducting and murdering Emon, son of Johur Ali of Batirkandi village in Chhatak upazila, said the SI.
On March 28, a gang picked up Emon, a student of class one of Lafarge Primary School in Chhatak upazila, from in front of his house and took him to an unknown place.
The abductors then demanded Tk two lakh as ransom from the family for his release over mobile phone, said Harun-ur-Rashid, officer-in-charge of the police station.
Imon’s body was recovered from a pond under Dakkhin Surma upazila in Sylhet on March 31, said police.
A case was filed in this connection, said the OC.
