Bangladesh Women’s U-20 crushed 6-1 by South Korea

Bangladesh’s U-20 women’s team suffered a heavy 6-1 defeat to South Korea in their final Group H match of the AFC U-20 Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers — but their dream of reaching the main tournament isn’t over yet.

Facing a South Korean side ranked 83 spots higher in the FIFA rankings, the Young Tigresses showed courage and heart, stunning their opponents early with a 15th-minute goal from Trishna Rani. The breakthrough sparked hope in the Bangladeshi camp and momentarily rattled the tournament favorites.

But the lead was short-lived. South Korea equalized within five minutes, and the first half ended 1-1, with Bangladesh holding their ground against a technically superior side.

The second half, however, told a different story. South Korea turned up the intensity and overwhelmed the Bangladeshi defense, netting five unanswered goals to secure a dominant 6-1 win.

Despite the scoreline, Bangladesh’s overall campaign has been commendable. With two wins from three matches, they finish second in Group H with six points — behind South Korea’s perfect nine.

Crucially, Bangladesh still has a chance to qualify for the tournament’s final stage. The eight group winners and the three best second-placed teams will progress. As of now, Bangladesh sits third among the runners-up — a position that could secure their place in the 2026 AFC U-20 Women’s Asian Cup.

If confirmed, it would mark the first time the Bangladesh U-20 women’s team qualifies for the tournament proper — a historic milestone for women’s football in the country.

Though outclassed by South Korea on the day, the team’s overall performances have earned praise for their discipline, spirit, and growing tactical maturity. Scoring against one of Asia’s top teams is a testament to their progress and potential.

As the final group results roll in, Bangladesh waits with cautious optimism. Regardless of the outcome, the Young Tigresses have shown they deserve a seat at Asia’s top table — even in defeat.
